Your team: The Managing Editor's Office aids the newsroom in its daily operations, whether it is staff management, executing policy, and transformation. The department handles budget, approvals and works hand in hand with other divisions including finance, compliance and legal. 

Your role: As a Newsroom Operations Apprentice at The Sun, you will be working closely with the Managing Editor and the wider team, playing a vital role in supporting newsroom operations. Your role will be juggling change management, project management and administrative duties - always focusing on the journalist and how the newsroom can produce breaking news and investigations.

Being an apprentice at The Sun: During your time with us, you will earn above the national living wage while receiving comprehensive, hands-on training. You’ll work 4 days a week with The Sun and spend 1 day studying towards a fully funded recognised qualification. Along with mentorship from top industry professionals, we will provide any tailored support you need to reach your full potential. 

Day to day you will: 

• Newsroom assistance: Assist the newsroom in getting stories live, whether it be through tech systems or finance discussions

• Project Management Support: Assist in rolling out and integrating new tools, systems, and workflows into the newsroom.

• Change Management: Support the wider team with change management initiatives across the department.

• Administrative Duties: Provide robust administrative support, including handling HR processes and tracking finance approvals.

• Future Tech & AI: Assist with research and projects related to Artificial Intelligence and its application alongside our existing newsroom tooling and workflows.

What we are looking for from you:

• Strong interest in journalism and how stories are put together

• Good communication skills

• Curious about the way the world works

• Analytical and problem solving skills

• You have a strong interest in workflows, tools, and the operational systems that make a newsroom tick.

• You have a keen interest in current tech trends, including AI.
