The Sun is the biggest news brand in the UK, publishing hundreds of stories a day and reaching over 170m unique users digitally every month. Its exclusives set the news agenda and its campaigns have changed the lives of many. Delivering news, entertainment, and sports coverage to millions of readers every day. With a rich history spanning decades, we are dedicated to providing accurate, insightful, and engaging content across print and digital platforms.
The Sun has a mass-market audience and aims to appeal to a diverse audience in the UK and beyond.
Your role: As an Insight Executive on The Sun Insight team, you’ll work closely with The Sun Analytics team, with both teams reporting into the Director of Data. Your role is to enhance our understanding of over 27m monthly readers, supporting marketing, editorial, and commercial projects through primary and secondary research and data analysis.
This is a fast-paced, dynamic environment where each day brings new challenges and opportunities to influence key decisions. We value creativity, innovation, and data-driven decision-making, making this an ideal opportunity for someone looking to bridge the gap between traditional insight and modern analytics.
Day to day you will:
-
Combine traditional research with data analytics to ensure the ‘Voice of the Consumer’ is at the heart of our decision-making.
-
Research Support: Manage the end-to-end process for the Sun Reader Panel, from scripting surveys to processing data. You will be comfortable working in Excel and survey platforms, while also utilising AI tools to help categorise and analyse large volumes of qualitative open-end responses more efficiently.
-
Monitor and report on brand performance and project findings. You will be responsible for writing clear, punchy summaries. You’ll have the opportunity to use AI as a writing co-pilot to help draft initial summary documents, ensuring they are always refined by you to fit the unique tone of The Sun.
-
Create clear and impactful debriefs. In addition to standard charting, you will explore AI-enhanced design tools to create compelling visual materials that bring our research findings to life for stakeholders.
-
Use industry tools (TGI, YouGov) and internal dashboards to find the ‘why’ behind the numbers. You will also learn to use the semantic layers of tools like Omni, allowing you to dive deeper into analytical data using natural language queries.
-
Work across various teams to identify knowledge gaps and provide the information needed to achieve business objectives.
What we’re looking for from you:
-
Experience in an Insight, Research, or Analyst-assistant role.
-
Comfortable working with datasets and spreadsheets (Excel is a must) but, more importantly, able to see the patterns and stories that connect the data points.
-
A proactive interest in how new technologies and AI can be used to improve research speed and quality.
-
An ability to communicate creatively and succinctly. You can take a complex dataset and translate it into a meaningful story for our Editors or Marketers.
-
Experience with (or a desire to learn) data tools like Tableau, or Omni.
-
A positive, ‘can-do’ attitude with the initiative to find better ways of doing things.
